Administrator Study Course for National Association of Long-Term Care Administrators Boards (NAB) Exams

We offer three study courses to prepare for the NAB examinations toward becoming a license nursing home administrator.

Each nursing home administrator must take two national examinations.

1

CORE

General Knowledge Examination for Senior Living and Health Services Administrators (all administrator candidates must take this exam)

2

NHA

Nursing Home Administrators Line of Service Examination (select this exam if desiring to become licensed in skilled, intermediate lines of service. Note: Those taking NHA exam are eligible to practice in all lines of service, including RCAL.

3

RCAL

Resident Care and Assisted Living Administrators Line of Service Examination. (Select this exam if desiring to become licensed in Residential or Assisted Living lines of service) Note: Those taking the RCAL exam are eligible only to practice in this line of service and not skilled or intermediate care levels.

The candidate for licensure must be approved to set the examination by the state they will be applying to practice in and must successfully pass two examinations. All candidates must take and successfully pass the Administrators Core examination. The candidate then can select the area of service they plan to practice in and take the exam associated with that level of care.

1. Administrators (CORE)

This examination is required of all candidates seeking license regardless as to area of practice and is based on the domains of practice as outlined by NAB.

2. NHA Examination

This examination is required for those candidates seeking licensure to practice as a long-term care administrator in a skilled or intermediate care facility and is based on the domains of practice as outlined by NAB. Those successfully taking the NHA examination are granted licensure for all levels of care, skilled, intermediate, residential or assisted living, once they have met all state requirements.

3. RCAL Examination

This examination is required for those candidates seeking licensure to practice as a long-term care administrator in a residential or assisted living care facility and is based on the domains of practice as outlined by NAB. If taking the RCAL examination the candidate is limited to practicing as an administrator only in a residential or assisted living facility and would not be eligible for licensure in the state for the skilled or intermediate areas of practice.
